In 2008 was Duitsland voor het tweede jaar achtereen de populairste buitenlandse vakantiebestemming onder Nederlanders. Tot oktober werd een groei in het aantal overnachtingen van bijna 8 procent bereikt. Met jaarlijks meer dan 3 miljoen vakantiegangers en 9 miljoen overnachtingen heeft Duitsland een marktaandeel van 16 procent op de Nederlandse reismarkt.
